Sidethink (“the app”) is a macOS app that organizes what is said, or typed, during a meeting. This policy explains what information the app handles, where that information goes, what it is used for, and which processing routes you can choose.
1. Principles
- You start and stop recording explicitly.
- Raw audio is not stored by default.
- Cloud processing happens only when you have selected a ProductMode, an STT route, a provider, and the action itself.
- The app never switches to a different provider automatically when one fails.
- We do not track you for advertising, and we do not sell data.
2. What is stored on your Mac
Transcripts, Claims, Insights, and Fact Check results are stored in a database on your Mac and used to show your history. Deleting a session deletes its data.
Saved as Markdown in the folder you select. The contents of that folder are never sent anywhere automatically.
Stored in the macOS Keychain. They are never written to source code, meeting notes, or diagnostic logs.
The modes and routes you select, and any optional Profile, stay on your Mac. A Profile may be used as context for cloud processing, within the scope shown to you.
3. Processing routes and what leaves your Mac
The app has two modes, BYOK and Pro. Only the information required by the feature you chose is sent to the services below.
Apple Speech
When you choose on-device speech recognition, recognition runs entirely on your Mac.
Soniox
When you choose Soniox, audio and the settings needed for recognition are sent to Soniox. Even on Pro, raw audio goes from your Mac directly to Soniox and does not pass through Sidethink’s managed backend.
OpenAI
The utterance text and context needed for Claims, Insights, and Fact Check are sent. On BYOK this uses your own API key; on Pro it uses credentials managed by Sidethink.
Gemini / Google Search
The text being checked is sent, and used for verification with Google Search grounding and for retrieving sources.
Apple / RevenueCat
Product IDs, identifiers tied to the purchase transaction, and subscription status are used to process, restore, and verify Pro entitlements. RevenueCat SDK automatic device identifiers, messaging, diagnostics, and SDK logging are disabled.
Sidethink managed backend
Verifies Pro entitlement, monthly allowance, and request validity, then runs the processing you asked for. It never receives raw audio, and it does not write meeting content or credentials to diagnostic logs.
4. Why we use this information
- To provide the app: speech recognition, Claim and Insight generation, Fact Check, and note saving
- To confirm Pro purchase status, entitlement, and monthly allowance
- To prevent abuse, authenticate requests, and keep the service running
- To respond to support requests you send us
5. Retention
Sessions and notes on your Mac are kept until you delete them. Raw audio is not stored by default. Information sent to a cloud provider is handled under that provider’s agreement, configuration, and privacy policy. The Pro backend does not store meeting content in ordinary diagnostic logs, but may keep limited records needed for purchases, entitlement, and billing integrity.
6. Third-party services
7. Your controls
You choose when recording starts and stops, the ProductMode, the STT route, the provider, and the folder notes are saved to. Sessions can be deleted from the app, and notes from the folder you selected. BYOK API keys can be removed in Settings. macOS permissions can be revoked in System Settings.
8. Contact and changes
For questions about this policy, write to [email protected]. If we change how information is handled, we will revise the last-updated date on this page and, where it matters, tell you in the app.
